We pay tribute to an icon.

Yesterday we lost Andrew Weatherall. A legendary producer and DJ, Weatherall constantly challenged audiences, explored new sounds and elevated the work of others with his countless remixes. Having notoriously dodged fame in favour of a life on the cutting edge, throughout his career he remained restless, mixing everything from rockabilly to intense chuggy techno into his sets. Weatherall always put music above ego, however, between his work bringing acid house to the masses with Boy’s Own, reinventing Primal Scream and his other countless side projects and collaborations, it’s no exaggeration to claim that the British music landscape wouldn’t have been the same without him.

A cult hero if ever there was one, there’s more to say about Weatherall and more music that was touched by his influence than we could ever sum up. We’ll be sharing tributes to him and his work as the week goes on, starting today with a playlist that tries to capture his genius. Included here are his own productions and remixes alongside tracks he played out that have stuck with members of the Crack Magazine team and our readers. An honourable mention goes to his remix of My Bloody Valentine’s Soon, which is not on Spotify. We hope it captures some of his inimitable spirit.

Editor’s note: We’ve updated this playlist with tracks suggested by readers and have opened it up for new additions. If there’s a track produced by Weatherall that stuck with you or a song he played out that changed your life, please add it below.
