David Vunk

A revered selector on the local party scene of Rotterdam, the man behind Moustache Records is also a Red Right Radio DJ, Dekmantel affiliate and a master at consistently keeping dancefloors at a peak-time high.

Last week, he headed up the decks at Rotterdam’s BAR, as part of Jäger Music‘s party series called The Taste Of, which saw the party-starting DJ enlist a roster of his favourite artists to join him on the decks. A regular at Panorama Bar, Steffi was seen at the controls, locked in a dance-off with the Rotterdam favourite.

At ease with the crowd in his hometown, Vunk told Crack Magazine over email, “I love the Rotterdam crowd, they are thankful and I know that. I’m born and raised here, so some people have heard me DJ more that 100 times!”

“The taste of David Vunk is energy, variation, and phat! Classics that have stood the time in all styles like new wave, electro, techno, acid house and disco or Italo. It’s music from the heart and people from the heart. The artists I invited gave their life to the music.”

The two-hour excursion he turns in for Crack Mix 199 comes in true David Vunk Style – opening with a stomping electropop classic from The Human League, and careening through acid-inflected techno, Italo disco, funk, post-punk textures and house, with futuristic synths gliding through the productions. The connecting factor? Infectious energy, like a charged piston that’s loaded at all times, mastered only by the analogue wizardry of David Vunk.
