Edge Slayer is no stranger to boundary-pushing. Coming off the back of her 2020 EP COOCHI3 – which featured a dark, warped fusion of hip-hop, trap and club – Edge Slayer’s debut album Tsureena melds R&B with dynamic club experimentations.
The LA-born, New Orleans-based artist describes her debut as “a love letter, an energy healer, a void to scream into, and a lullaby”. A description that highlights the eclectic and personal elements that make up the record. This range is also reflected in her Crack Mix, which she says is “a sonic journey through time, space and genres” – spanning tracks from Mariah Carey, Ivorian Doll, Frankie Knuckles and Kyle Minogue alongside some of her own productions.
“I envisioned listening to this in a field right before it gets cold as summer ends with fall’s kiss,” Edge Slayer says. “Parts of this are a mushroom trip, some parts are a candy flip, and equal parts joy!”. Sourcing these “tracks from records and tapes” given to her by family members, Edge Slayer uses these to “capture a vibe of nostalgia and wonder.” Get locked in.
