Crack Mix 413:
Moonshine

House Gqom Club Afro House

Montréal crew Moonshine are a talented bunch. The global collective, first formed in Canada, produce tunes, DJ, promote unmissable parties and design clothing, with much of their output centred around African and electronic club culture.

Their recent compilation, SMS For Location, Vol. 4, demonstrates their approach and ethos superbly. Filled with nimble, bass-heavy and captivating club sounds rooted in Africa and the diaspora, the compilation also dips into a slew of homegrown styles from around the globe, tapping into the underground wherever possible.

Moonshine’s Crack Mix – mixed by the crew’s very own San Farafina – offers a succinct introduction into their sound palette. “Both smooth and erratic, this mix explores global club sounds that come from or are inspired by Africa and the African diaspora,” explain Moonshine over email. “From gqom and kwaito to batida, logobi, garage and more.”
