OKO DJ

OKO DJ has built her reputation on the Parisian dance scene on her eclectic taste – as head of the Paris department of LYL Radio, she co-hosts the monthly show Synchronisme ou Barberie with the Bruits de la Passion crew and platforms a women-only show called Pu$$y Nightmare. Leaning into a genre-free approach with her inbox open to proposals, Pu$$y Nightmare features selectors from all walks: record store owners, scholars, promoters and enthusiastic crate diggers covering everything from trap to Caribbean folk via strains of classical sounds and post-punk.

You may also recognise the OKO DJ as a member of the future-facing Lyon imprint Brothers From a Different Mother (BFDM), who crop up regularly on NTS. Known as the French answer to the UK’s Timedance label, they’re charted by the likes of The Pilotwings and Simo Cell.

In keeping with her reputation as an eclectic tastemaker, her exclusive Crack Mix opens with a tranquil soundscape – via an anime soundtrack piece from Mica Levi – with environmental sounds of running water, tribal percussions and left-field experimentalism flowing into warm house and trance. It’s colourful and blissful, all at once.

OKO DJ is an alumnus of the SHAPE platform for innovative music and audiovisual art, supported by the Creative Europe programme of the EU. She plays at Atlas Electronic, Marrakech, 30-31 August
