USA to Berlin sound artist and experimental composer NEXCYIA (real name Adam Dove) provides the weekend soundtrack with the latest Sunday Mix. It follows his second full length studio album, Exodus, which was released via Haunter Records last month. Paying tribute to the elder Dove family, who relocated from Bryan, Texas to Los Angeles, California in the 1950s, the album examines their long migratory journey via evolving soundscapes and amorphous moods. His Sunday Mix showcases that ear for evocative sound design and textures, moving through serene, pad-filled ambient, dystopian, metallic downtempo and confounding IDM. Lean back and listen.
Where: I’m settling into my new home in Berlin, which has been an exciting shift. I moved here just over a month ago.
What: My music dives into memory, belonging, and otherness. The sonic narratives I build are often non-linear, offering listeners the freedom to interpret their own stories within the sounds.
Ideal Sunday: My Sundays are all about slowing down. I love being at home, lounging around, or diving into creative work. If the weather’s good, I’ll head out for a walk. I love finding balance between productivity and relaxation.
And what’s your ideal soundtrack to it? Lately, I’ve been listening with some of this year’s releases – CHANTSSSS, mu tate, emre girginkaya, santebela, Racine. Music that’s dreamy, sometimes haunting, always immersive. A mix of these artists would definitely be the soundtrack to my Sunday.
How do you like to unwind away from music? Cooking is definitely my go-to way to unwind. There’s something about getting lost in the process, the rhythm of chopping, stirring – it clears my head. I also find walks refreshing, or getting lost in a good series or film. Recently, I’ve started journaling too, which has been a nice way to gather my thoughts.
Can you describe your Sunday Mix? The mix I’ve curated is designed for those moments when you want to fully relax—maybe while taking a bath, or lying on the floor with your eyes closed. It’s perfect for unwinding but also works as a background soundtrack when you need to focus, like if you’re in the office and need to concentrate. It’s a mix that can shape-shift depending on your mood.
