This week’s Crack Mix comes courtesy of Matt Gardner, better known as Terekke.

It would be disingenuous to suggest that Terekke courts the enigmatic producer label – despite being relatively press-adverse and having a tendency towards esoteric release titles- standouts include YYYYYYYYYY and ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) – his output over the last half-decade or so has been slow but steady, with a series of rock-solid EPs for L.I.E.S imbued with dubby warmth and a deft musical lightness of touch culminating in the celebrated Plant Age LP.

Terekke rounded out last year with Improvisational Loops on Music From Memory. As well as being his first release not on Morelli’s label, it was an entirely beatless album laden with cosy ambient loops that resonated with its titular nod to Basinski and co.

Terekke’s Crack Mix catches him in an energetic mood, mixing a technicolour palette of airy house jams and satisfyingly percussive numbers with a dash of acid squelch thrown in for good measure. As you’d expect, it’s not overly showy or technical, but Gardner’s ear for melody and knack for arrangement shines through on every transition, making this one a true pleasure to listen to.
