R.E.M. hate Donald Trump

Donald Trump, harbourer of many bad wigs, bad opinions and a strange lust for his own daughter, has been put on blast by left-leaning R.E.M after using It’s The End Of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine) as his walk-on music at a rally in Washington DC.

Why the bloody hell not? When you’ve got hands has grubby and enormous as Trump’s, it’s hard to stop them smearing all over things that aren’t yours. We feel sorry for him: imagine not being able to stop yourself from accidentally jamming your digits into deals with the Mafia, rigging Miss America and farms in tiny Scottish villages? Poor, cack-handed bastard.

Anyway, back to the news. As you can imagine, bassist Mike Mills wasn’t best pleased that the band’s song was used for Trump’s ill gains, and he said so on Twitter:

A full statement from the band was then released:

“While we do not authorize or condone the use of our music at this political event, and do ask that these candidates cease and desist from doing so, let us remember that there are things of greater importance at stake here. The media and the American voter should focus on the bigger picture, and not allow grandstanding politicians to distract us from the pressing issues of the day and of the current Presidential campaign.”

Wise.

And then Stipe went a bit less politically correct in a statement to The Daily Beast:

“Go fuck yourselves, the lot of you — you sad, attention-grabbing, power-hungry little men. Do not use our music or my voice for your moronic charade of a campaign.”

Also wise.

Surely there’s someone that’ll let Trump use their stuff as a backing track to his evil-doings? No? No one? Fair enough.
