Selections: Barnt

Welcome back to Selections, a series of exclusive artist-curated Spotify playlists from those in the know.

Cologne-based producer Barnt is known somewhat as a techno outsider, turning traditional notions of the genre upside down. His work often comprises of melodic cuts that take listeners on an odyssey of winding techno that has an expansive feel, leaving space for exploration. First cutting his teeth on the local Cologne scene, the producer gained international recognition after Daphni played his track in a Resident Advisor podcast. Having pushed his work through Hinge Finger and Cómeme, Barnt is also known for helming releases on his label, Magazine, established with Jens-Uwe Beyer and Crato in 2010.

For Barnt, there’s little division between the dancefloor and his home, and the playlist below is an indication of this: techno and thumping EBM cuts built for maximum impact in the main room, later giving way to meditative synths. Press play and relive those moments of fractious energy on the ‘floor below, that later winds down to those serene post-club hours.

Barnt plays BLACK, New York, on 31 March.
