Selections: Rachel Chinouriri

Welcome back to Selections, a series of exclusive artist-curated Spotify playlists from those in the know.

Rachel Chinouriri is on an upward trajectory with her blend of lovelorn, guitar-driven R&B. Taking cues from the likes of Daughter and Ladysmith Black Mambazo she taps into an emotive tenderness which, on her more recent studio-recorded singles, sounds tailored for big rooms and enormous festival stages, while still maintaining the sense of intimacy from her rough demos shared on Soundcloud.

For her playlist, the Croydon songwriter draws for the tracks which immediately hit the hardest. “They’re all vibes which I find myself listening to almost daily,” she says. Among them are head-bopping anthems by slowthai and Octavian, and softer tracks by IAMDDB and Billie Eilish, amounting to a broad tracklist of near-instant classics.

Rachel Chinouriri plays at Field Day, London, on 8 June
