Selections: Scalping

Welcome back to Selections, a series of exclusive artist-curated Spotify playlists from those in the know.

Scalping are the latest band to emerge from Bristol’s fertile creative scene. The genre-blending four-piece outfit first formed in 2017 by members James Rushforth, Alexander Hill, Isaac Jones and Jamie Thomas and together, they’ve created their own thrilling sound that fuses techno with post-punk and synth music.

Their recently-released debut EP Chamber, for new imprint Council Records, highlights the deep connection they have to their hometown’s underground, with remixes turned in by Bristol-based producers such as Bruce.

If that piques your interest, this exclusive playlist will help flesh out the band’s broad web of influences even further. “These tracks are all from artists who have influenced and inspired us as a band,” they write to Crack Magazine via email. “The four of us have very disparate music tastes so these 20 tracks are an attempt to distil that into what has most directly shaped Scalping’s sound.” Featuring tracks from Kanye, Savages, Giant Swan and more – this is essential stuff.

Scalping plays at Test Pressing Festival, London, 27-28 April
