Raised in Belgrade, the Yugoslavia-born DJ Vladimir Ivkovic has become synonymous with Dusseldorf’s legendary bar-club Salon des Amateurs. Ivkovic has claimed that the slow pace of the city has nurtured a limitless environment for electronic music. There must be something in that claim: Salon is, of course, known for its experimentalism, and both Lena Willikens and Jan Schulte came up alongside Ivkovic. An impressive track record.

Through his sets, Ivkovic demonstrates a grasp for the left-field and eclectic, crafting thought-provoking excursions that move from classical music to EBM and eastern melodies. As a label head he further showcases the depth of digging and taste; Offen Music’s first release was a collection of recordings by avant-garde composer Mitar Subotić.

Clocking in at over four hours, Ivkovic’s extended playlist for Crack’s Selections series shows his flair for the weird and wonderful, selecting a near-hour-long Steve Reich ensemble early on in the tracklist. There’s a spacious feel to his selections, with tracks by Philip Glass, Slowdive, Smagghe & Cross, Nurse With Wound and more. A fully-fledged primer into Ivkovic’s extraordinary musical universe.
