Tyler, The Creator allegedly banned from UK for hate speech

Lyrics from Bastard and Goblin “encourage violence and intolerance of homosexuality”

Tyler, the Creator has reportedly been barred from the UK for three to five years by the “secretary of state for the home department” according to a statement from Tyler’s manager on Tumblr.

The letter banning the rapper was written in reaction to lyrics Tyler wrote on his earliest albums that “encourages violence and intolerance of homosexuality” and “fosters hatred with views thats seek to provoke others to terrorist acts.”

In the Tumblr post Tyler’s team has reacted with disbelief: “can you imagine being beholden to things you said when you were 18? tyler has been to the UK over 20x in the last 5 years without incident (shows, in stores, meet and greets)”

Update:

The UK home office have offered a further statement on their decision to exclude Tyler from entering the UK.

“Coming to the UK is a privilege, and we expect those who come here to respect our shared values. The Home Secretary has the power to exclude an individual if she considers that his or her presence in the UK is not conducive to the public good or if their exclusion is justified on public policy grounds.”
