Grimes’ new video is here

Grimes has shared a new video for Flesh without Blood/Life in the Vivid Dream

It seems like Grimes’ sophomore album has been in the works for centuries. Hype has grown, whole albums have been scrapped and we’ve been subjected to some serious tension from the Grimes camp. So far she’s revealed some divisive artwork, spoken of a song about a gender-fluid Al Pacino, told us there will be a nu-metal track with a taiwanese rapper and mentioned that the entire album was influenced by Billy Joel. We’ve basically heard everything about the album. We feel like we know it back to front. Except we haven’t heard any actual music.

Well last night that all changed when were given the first taste of her upcoming album Art Angels in the form of a sprawling, bizarro joint video. The epic affair spans two songs Flesh without Blood and Life in the Vivid Dream and sees Grimes playing a multitude of characters in a universe that seemingly transcends time itself. Amongst the cast we see a victorian Grimes, a Grimes angel and a cyberpunk Grimes all locked in to some kind of psychic dreamworld. Well that’s out interpretation any way.

The songs themselves represent two very different and distinct styles Flesh without Blood features gaudier stabs and harsher instrumentation. It’s pure pop and reflects Grimes’ penchant for the genre. Life in the Vivid Dream however is stripped back, almost folk-like in its quiet restraint.

You can listen to both the songs in the video above and check out the artwork and track listing for Art Angels just below.
