M.I.A. drops hazy new track Goals

“Ride of your life you better bring your GoPro”

This month’s Crack cover star M.I.A. has unveiled a brand new track Goals. Lifting the line, “pick up your receiver, I’ll make you a believer” straight from Depeche Mode’s Personal Jesus, the loosie comes accompanied by a series of GIFs from Mexican-born Sri Lankan photographer Jaime Martinez, who’s also signed to M.I.A.’s now-defunct label N.E.E.T. Recordings. The GIFs will be exhibited during Meltdown Festival at London’s Southbank Centre on 9-18 June.

In the YouTube caption, M.I.A. says on the new track: “DEDICATED TO MY HARDCORE FANS THANK YOU FOR YOUR UNFALTERING DEDICATION AND SUPPORT. YOU HAVE GIVEN ME A SLIVER OF HOPE IN HUMANITY. STAY STRONG. REALITY WINNERZ.”

M.I.A. is this year’s curator for Meltdown. Those who’ve been confirmed for the festival’s line-up include former Crack cover star Mykki Blanco, Princess Nokia, Swedish sad boy Yung Lean, Crystal Castles, Young M.A and Young Fathers amongst others. On the line-up, M.I.A. said, “For Meltdown I chose artists who are young enough to not be influenced by the industry – I wanted to have a discussion about an alternative existence for musicians.”
