The ICA to present first public screenings of The The’s Infected: The Movie since 1987

The screenings will take place on three consecutive nights to mark the 30th Anniversary of The The’s album Infected

The ICA is to screen British indie alternative band The The’s cult visuals for their 1986 album, Infected.

Given a budget of $500,000 (an unheard of sum at the time of filming), the series of visual representations of the album are noted for their controversial, revealing and stunning imagery (including suicide, prostitution, political comment, alcoholism and drugs) to match the heavy lyrical content of the songs. The film was shot in Peru, Bolivia, New York and the UK by four directors, including Tim Pope and the late Peter ‘Sleazy’ Christopherson.

After the screenings, The The’s front man Matt Johnson, Neil Fraser (Matt Johnson’s authorised biographer) filmmaker Johanna St Michaels, director Tim Pope and Tom Wilcox (ICA) will discuss the album’s political and cultural resonance.

The screenings will run from 2 – 4 September. See more information and tickets here.
