Berlin Atonal announce more names

Berlin Atonal takes place across five days beginning on 19 August.

Each year Berlin Atonal celebrates and promotes the best in truly leftfield electronic music. This year’s festival is no exception and they’ve already picked out a typically eclectic and intriguing line-up.

Today they have added a whole bunch of new names to that line-up starting with an exciting new collaboration at the opening concert from Nine Inch Nails’ Allesandro Cortini and Australian composer Lawrence English which they describe as “Immersive horizontal music. Drowning the ears. Consuming the body”. Later in the evening Barbara Morgenstern and her Chor der Kulturen der Welt will present a site specific ‘spatial sound collage’ that “allows the audience to experience the special features of the powerplant through unamplified sound.”

This year also marks the first time Atonal have utilised Berlin’s Kraftwerk venue for the festival. The venue will host performances from Abdulla Rashim as Lundin Oil, Varg, Acronym, Vit Fana and Puce Mary. Newly announced additions include a handful of names James Ginzburg’s Subtext Recordings family. The Bristol label will be represented by Roly Porter who will be bringing a “mind-expanding live A/V show”, composer/producer John Bence and Ellen Akbro.

Fans of Diagonal records will also be treated to a showcase across the weekend including sets from label bosses Oscar Powell and Jaime Williams who will be joined by EDM maestro Not Waving as well as the unstoppable Blood Music.

To round off the festival on Sunday night Samuel Kerridge will present the world premiere of his new project – Fatal Light Attraction – a joining of light and music to create a physical reaction to his unhinged, visceral techno.
