Tune into Nicolas Jaar’s new radio network

The Pomegranates producer has launched an online radio network featuring 333 channels

Nicolas Jaar returned yesterday (30 August) with a brand new project. It’s nothing quite so traditional as an album or a single. It is, in fact, an entire network of radio stations. Jaar’s new website other-people.network is a live streaming radio service. While the website ostensibly feature a whopping ‘333’ channels you can only pick up channels in multiples of 3.

The station comes in the wake of Jaar’s recent hints that he may be releasing a new album soon, possibly the third in a trilogy, and the news that he is shutting down his ten dollar monthly Other People subscription service which delivers music weekly via email. The website’s numerous references to the number 3 could be a hint towards the trilogy but it’s also worth noting that Jaar’s label Other People turns 3 this year.

It’s not currently clear how much and what kind of content will be available on each station but the artwork seems to hark back to Jaar’s earlier works so we could be looking at some kind of archival project. Read Jaar’s full statement on the future of Other People below and tune in to his new Radio Network here.

Dear Opies,

First, I want to thank you for your amazing support over the past 3 years, you have allowed us to experiment and grow. But most importantly, you’ve sustained a space for dozens of young artists from all over the world to begin or continue their paths.

Thank you
Thank you
Thank you

As some of you may have noticed, we have stopped our monthly subscription. There are two reasons behind this decision. First of all, I will be playing live again and unable to be fully present on a week to week basis. But it’s also a financial decision: every release was a labour of love, and I took up DJing the last couple of years in part to finance the label. We will now concentrate on a much smaller batch of yearly releases starting in 2017.

Until then, the site will mutate into www.other-people.network (Chrome preferred). I will let you guys discover what this is on your own but all I’ll say is that channels 324, 195, 108, 243, 225, 33 would be good places to start. And channel 333 will be a good place to end. Okay that’s all, see you on the road.

Love,
N
