Underground Resistance accuse Armin Van Buuren of plagiarism after he names Ibiza party U R

“Is there no shame?”

This weekend, techno collective Underground Resistance took to Facebook to accuse trance producer Armin Van Buuren of stealing their name and logo for his Hï Ibiza residency, U R With Armin Van Buuren.

“Is there no shame?” ran the comment, posted to the official Underground Resistance Facebook page on Saturday (20 May). “What happened to electronic creativity? What the fuck is it all about the money?? To ‘those who know’ MOVE TO CONDITION RED!! To those who steal culture. You have been warned.”

Underground Resistance, a group of techno producers and label based out of Detroit, is regarded as a highly influential force within techno, both sonically and in their embrace of political activism. Back in 2000, they went to war with Sony Germany over a unauthorised trance cover of Rolando’s 1998 track The Knights of the Jaguar. The plans were halted after the collective advocated a heated email campaign from their fans.

U R with Armin Van Buuren is due to take place every Wednesday for 13 weeks at Hï Ibiza, formerly known as Space.
