Hackney Council is ‘not going to sell’ NTS Radio’s Gillett Square

The car park will not be sold

Earlier this week, NTS Radio suggested that their Gillett Square location was under threat as Hackney Council were considering selling the car park to private developers. The square is also home to other independent businesses, including jazz club The Vortex.

A petition – appealing to Mayor of Hackney Philip Glanville – was designed to list NTS Radio as an Asset of Community Value. It currently holds over 3,500 signatures.

However, councillor Guy Nicholson has told Resident Advisor today (5 July): “A developer approached us and offered to buy the Gillett Square car park site, but we are not going to sell it.”

According to The Faderthe council have no plans to sell Gillett Square in the immediate future.
