Jay Z and Beyoncé reportedly paid bail for protestors in Baltimore and Ferguson

Jay Z and Beyoncé have reportedly paid “tens of thousands” of dollars in bail money to protestors arrested in Ferguson and Baltimore.

According to tweets from activist and writer Dream Hampton, who also worked with Jay Z on his 2010 memoir Decoded, the celebrity couple had allegedly written a “huge check” to help support the Black Lives Matter movement that emerged in the wake of the death of Trayvon Martin in 2013. Though Hampton has since deleted the tweets, writing that Jay Z “would be pi-issed to see I was offering evidence”, they have been saved by Complex, and detail the numerous private donations given by the couple.

The Carters have recently faced some criticism for their perceived silence surrounding Ferguson, Baltimore, and the race issues currently affecting the US. Hampton’s tweets indirectly confront that, stating that they had donated large amounts of money for bail for protestors, as well as to other causes – “too much to list actually”.
