Harsh licensing laws have made the 25-year-old venue ‘untenable’

The licensing law that ruled iconic venue The Arches must close at midnight has dealt the final blow in a long and troubled battle to keep the Glaswegian institution afloat. The new closing time has slashed revenue by 50%, making the business model ‘no longer viable’.

In its long and illustrious history The Arches has hosted thousands of gigs, club nights and exhibitions. The venue has often been described as an essential part of the Glasgow arts scene, and the new measures have been branded as ‘pointless’, ‘terrible’, and already ‘sorely missed’ by a devastated Twitter audience.
