Evian Christ’s new site lists dogs who died in the ‘trance war’

Evian Christ and David Rudnick’s new collaborative project now has a face.

And that face is one of the best things we’ve seen all week. Evian Christ’s newly updated website features a scrolling list of the dogs who lost their lives in his and Rudnick’s alternate reality in which a ‘trance war’ has been raging since 1998 and seems to have affected only dogs.

The list is backed by a heavy trance soundtrack and a scrolling list of names including A$AP Zumba Instructor, several people named Carlos and of course, Dogspeed You! Black Labrador. We’ve only got as far as D so far but to be fair we’ve already laughed 8 times so that’s proper good value for money.

The site also contains an ominous statement:

“It is 1998. Your Millennium promises near-limitless commodities of both Future and of Nostalgia, and you are ready for Euphoria. You’re alive in the last days of a pre-satelitte mapped, pre-internet connected mythic global imagination, and all other cultures are perfectly understandable as holiday destinations, as sources of wellness, of places of jewellery, and as sunset video settings. You hope this sunset never fades.

You’re watching Europe uniting. You’re watching your house price rising. You hope this Gap Year lasts forever. Arpeggios and Anthems of Late Capitalism Vol I – Ongoing.

A Dog trusts its owner with its life.

30,000 Dogs died in the Trance War. What happened next will astound you.”

Evian Christ and David Rudnick perform THE TRANCE WAR: ARCHIVES AND DOCUMENTATION, 1998 – ONGOING on Thursday 23 July at the ICA at 8PM. Get tickets and more info here.
