You can listen to Grimes’ brand new record on Spotify now

Three years ago Claire Boucher, AKA Grimes, dropped Visions. Since then the world has been waiting for a follow-up and today it arrives in the form of Art Angels. The album is a selection of fourteen tracks including the already released laughing and not being normal, Scream, Flesh Without Blood and Life in the Vivid Dream.

The album also feature collaborations with Taiwanese rapper Aristophanes and Janelle Monae and Grimes mentioned a number of obscure influences ranging from Billy Joel to a gender fluid Al Pacino, “One song on the album, ‘Kill V Maim’, is written from the perspective of Al Pacino in The Godfather Pt 2,” she told Q Magazine, “Except he’s a vampire who can switch gender and travel through space.”

She also spoke to the magazine about how her surroundings had affected the album “I wanted to get away from Hollywood bullshit. So I moved to Squamish, a small town in British Colombia. There was a lot of ‘crazy’ going on, but it was organised ‘crazy’ – like lying in the dark and seeing if I could hallucinate. It felt good, letting myself be a total fucking weirdo. And I had cookies.”

The album will be out on physical formats on 11 December through 4AD. You can preorder the record here but in the meantime you’ll have to make do with the stream below.
