Artists turn Glasgow swimming pool into giant instrument

This is what a swimming pool sounds like

If you’d ever wondered what it might be like if a swimming pool could make drone music the wait is now over.

Florence To and Alex Menzies – a pair of artists who make site-specific installations – have turned Glasgow’s Govanhill Baths into a giant instrument.

The pair placed aluminium pipes in the Edwardian baths that pick up and amplify the atmospheric sounds created by the room.

“The acoustics in the swimming pool can be quite challenging with the strong resonance,” To tells The Spaces. “We wanted to create something that was initiated first from the space rather than to create an idea, then reconstruct it in the space.”
