Tests confirm remains belonged to DJ Derek

Human remains found earlier this week in a wooded area near Cribbs Causeway, Bristol belonged to DJ Derek

According to Police, DNA tests were performed on the remains after a post-mortem examination proved inconclusive. Derek Serpell-Morris, known to fans as DJ Derek, had been missing since July last year before a member of public uncovered the beloved 73-year-old’s remains in undergrowth on 10 March.

In his early life Derek had been a tax accountant before taking up DJing in his 30s. He went on to find fame as one of the UK’s oldest DJs, playing clubs in his native Bristol as well as some of the world’s biggest festivals including Glastonbury and The Big Chill.
