Massive Attack are set to return to their hometown for the first musical event on Clifton Downs in 15 years
Bristolian trip-hop pioneers Massive Attack are making their way back to their home city for a one-off event on 3 September and it’s shaping up to be a pretty special affair. The duo, made up of Grant ‘Daddy G’ Marshall and Robert ‘3D’ Del Naja have not played in Bristol since their 2003 gig in the city’s historic Queen Square. This time around they will play in the picturesque surroundings of Clifton Downs, overlooking the Avon Gorge.
Aside from the return of Massive Attack the gig will also see a selection of artists curated by the duo with Primal Scream and Skepta being the only additional acts announced so far. “We are curating what we hope will become an annual event something made in Bristol with an international reach,” says Robert Del Naja. “We will also use the project to engage with the important social and political issues of the day.”
The show is has also been supported by Team Love, the people behind popular Bristol weekender Love Saves The Day. Team Love’s Tom Paine explains that the gig has been a long time coming for both parties. “We’ve been talking with the band now for many years now about trying to put a show of this scale on together – and it finally feels like the moment is right.”
Tickets for the event will cost £37.50 go on sale this Friday (20 May) via the band’s official website, Songkick, Seetickets, Gigantic and Bristol Ticket Shop. Physical tickets will also be available from Idle Hands record shop on Stokes Croft.
The band have also announced that a limited amount of £25 tickets will be going on sale to those on income support or benefits whilst children will be admitted for free. These reduced cost tickets will be available only in person from Bristol Ticket Shop.
