Musical giant Leonard Cohen has died

The influential singer, songwriter and poet Leonard Cohen has died. He was 82 years old. Cohen’s label, Sony Music Canada, confirmed the news on his official Facebook page.

“It is with profound sorrow we report that legendary poet, songwriter and artist, Leonard Cohen has passed away. We have lost one of music’s most revered and prolific visionaries.” They wrote. “A memorial will take place in Los Angeles at a later date. The family requests privacy during their time of grief.”

Cohen’s son, Adam, has also offered a short statement: “My father passed away peacefully at his home in Los Angeles with the knowledge that he had completed what he felt was one of his greatest records,” He said to Rolling Stone. “He was writing up until his last moments with his unique brand of humor.”

Cohen was born on 21 September 1934 in Westmount, Quebec but moved to New York to pursue his music career in the 1960s. He went on to become one of he most influential musicians of his generation, known for his dark sense of humour and crooning baritone. Cohen is survived his son, Adam, and his daughter, Lorca.
