Elton John is a writing a musical adaptation of The Devil Wears Prada

Elton John has begun working on a Broadway musical adaptation of the iconic 2006 motion picture, The Devil Wears Prada.

EW reports that Elton will work with playwright Paul Rudnick on the production. Elton will write the music while Rudnick will write the book and lyrics.

In a joint statement, Producer Kevin McCollum and Fox Stage Productions’ Bob Cohen said, “To bring The Devil Wears Prada to the stage, we knew we needed to find artists as inimitable as the characters in the story. We needed artists whose work has run the gamut from music and publishing to drama and fashion. We could only think of two names: Elton John and Paul Rudnick.”

In his own statement, Elton added his enthusiasm, “Re-imagining The Devil Wears Prada for the musical theatre is super exciting. I’m a huge fan of both the book and the feature film, and a huge aficionado of the fashion world. I can’t wait to sink my musical teeth into this hunk of popular culture.”

The film came out in 2006 and told the story of magazine editor Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep) putting a new PA (Anne Hathaway) through her paces.
