Providing an evening of “Piano, grime, jazz and dance”, the lineup for the Nils Frahm-founded Piano Day event at London’s Union Chapel by Float has been announced.
A solo set from Norwegian experimentalist Bugge Wesseltoft, a special collaboration between pianist Matthew Bourne and legendary London MC Trim, percussionist Andrea Belfi (who featured on Frahm’s Nonkeen album) will perform an improvised set with UK piano and effects duo Dead Light with dance artist Frankie J of Neon Dance improvising to piano music between performances.
Terence Goodchild and Stuart Bailes, known for their work on Nils Frahm, Ólafur Arnalds and Johann Johansson’s live shows, will provide the sound and light design for the event.
Speaking about the event in a press release, Frahm said, “Why does the world need a Piano Day? For many reasons. But mostly, because it doesn’t hurt to celebrate the piano and everything around it: performers, composers, piano builders, tuners, movers and most important, the listener.”
Aptly, Piano Day takes place on 29 March, the 88th day of the year.
