The pop icon also starred in a botched Pepsi ad in 1989

Yesterday (5 April), Pepsi’s now-axed advert starring Kendall Jenner was met with backlash. In the clip, the supermodel flees her photoshoot to stop a protest by handing a can of Pepsi to a police officer.

Color of Change, an advocacy group campaigning to “end practices that unfairly hold Black people back” accused Jenner of “appropriating our pain and struggle”.

Today (6 April), Madonna has shared the clip on her Instagram with the caption: “When you wake up and realize that Shit just really doesn’t make sense! 😔#chosen”.

The hitmaker added the side note: “My Pepsi commercial was pulled 30 years ago because I was kissing a black saint! 👼🏾 #ironic”.

At the time, Madonna’s Pepsi advert was accused of being blasphemous by the Vatican. In a move intended to remove the company from a controversial situation, the advert was pulled.

Madonna followed up the post with an image of her holding a Coca Cola can.
