Sevdaliza surprise drops debut album, ISON

The Iranian-Dutch artist has shared the entire album along with an hour-long visual today (26 April)

Experimental pop artist Sevdaliza has dropped ISON on YouTube. No release date had previously been announced, with the singer simply stating that it would be coming this year. The artist has shared each track individually, and the entire album in one video with an hour-long clip.

Created by long-time collaborator and digital artist Hirad Sab, the full album visual depicts a hyperreal mask of the artist, created by sculptor Sophia Sitkin, slowly distorting as the album progresses.

On the mask, Sitkin told VICE: “The idea is based around Sevdaliza being the mother to herself and her past lives. It carries her vulnerability stoically. Her features distorted, some omitted, some emphasised. A new form is repeated through her 16 children (number of songs) surrounding her.”

In a Fader Gen F profile, the singer said on her debut full-length, “The songs reflect a lot of fears and things that feel limitless, [like] growth and experience.”

ISON includes the single Marilyn Monroe from 2015’s EP Children of Silk.
