The Fall drummer Kieron Melling attacked on train, police appeal for witnesses

The Fall drummer attacked

The musician was left with head injuries after being viciously attacked on a train and is now recovering at home

On Monday (27 March), The Fall’s drummer was badly beaten and left “lying in a pool of blood” following an attack on the 9.01pm train from Manchester Victoria to Blackburn.

The band’s manager, Ed Blaney, has confirmed that the victim was Kieron Melling, age 34.

The British Transport Police have released a CCTV image of two suspects and are calling for witnesses. The two men left the train at Smithy Bridge station, in Rochdale, after the attack.

Sgt Stephen Kite from BTP has said, “The behaviour of the two suspects who fled the area makes me believe they are not residents of Smithy Bridge. They seemed lost and confused so it is likely they intended to stay on the train until a later destination. Therefore, we would also like to appeal to people from Blackburn and other areas who may know who these men are.”

See the CCTV image from Greater Manchester Police below. If you have any information, you can contact BTP by texting 61016 or calling 0800 405040 quoting the reference 572 of March 27. Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
