Kodwo Eshun’s More Brilliant Than The Sun to be reissued with introduction by Kode9

The British-Ghanian writer, filmmaker and theorist’s book is currently out of print

Kodwo Eshun’s More Brilliant Than The Sun: Adventures In Sonic Fiction is set to be reprinted next year, with the release date locked in for 9 October 2018. The book first came out in 1998 and has long been unavailable. There’s even a listing to purchase a new copy on Amazon for £2099.99.

The book itself ties electronic music history in with theory, science fiction and Afrodiasporic studies and traces the discourse of Afrofuturism – how it’s gone on to influence jazz, dub, techno, funk, hip-hop and jungle sounds. It explores the music of Sun Ra, Alice Coltrane, Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry, Dr Octagon, Parliament and Underground Resistance.

The new edition will include an intro from Hyperdub boss Kode9, and will be available to purchase from Verso Books.
