Björk shared an old video this morning (2 October) with the caption, “for catalonia”.
The video is for Declare Independence – the penultimate song on her 2007 LP Volta.
By sharing the video, Björk is showing support for the Catalonians who voted for secession from Spain over the weekend. According to The Independent, 90% of over two million votes counted were in favour of Catalan independence.
This isn’t the first time Björk’s used the song as a message of support. At two 2008 concerts in Tokyo, Björk used the song to show support for Kosovo’s declaration of independence. Then, in 2008, she shouted “Tibet! Tibet!” at the end of a performance of the track in Shanghai which led to a response from China’s Ministry of Culture.
