Rock ‘n’ roll legend Fats Domino dies aged 89

Influential rock ‘n’ roll pioneer Fats Domino has passed away aged 89, according to local reports in New Orleans.

Mark Bone, the chief investigator with the Jefferson Parish in Louisiana, reportedly confirmed the news to Associated Press. Domino’s daughter has also confirmed the musician’s death to WWL-TV anchor Eric Paulsen. According to the local TV station, the artist died peacefully on Tuesday night (24 October) at home surrounded by family.

Antoine ‘Fats’ Domino was born in New Orleans, in 1928, and was known for his boogie-woogie piano style and bluesy voice. A key performer in the 50s and 60s, his most popular hits include Ain’t That A Shame, Blueberry Hill and I’m Walkin’.

His career, which spanned over five decades, saw the artist sell over 65 million records.

In 1986, he became one of the first inductees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and his influence has extended to the likes of Paul McCartney, Elvis Presley and more.
