The London DJ is due to release his limited edition book A Show of Heads Inside and Out, featuring 88 pages of hand-drawn artworks of those who had played at his inaugural edition of Houghton Festival in August.
The musician and visual artist has announced an upcoming exhibition of the hardback book, set to take place at London’s No 1 Poultry on 8-10 December. Artists that he’s visually interpreted include former Crack cover stars Ben UFO, Ricardo Villalobos and Nicolas Jaar. There’s also drawings of Tony Allen, Sonja Moonear and Andrew Weatherall. The book and original prints will be made available to purchase at the exhibition.
Richards first studied art in Bournemouth from 1986 to 1987, before attaining a graduate degree at Saint Martin’s School of Art and later a Masters at London’s Royal College of Art. In a Crack Magazine interview in October, Richards revealed that he’d been “doing more painting in the last couple of years”.
On where he’d like to take his art, he said, “I made a book with paintings and drawings of every artist that played at Houghton. Some caricatures, some more realistic, and some more abstract. I’ll have a show when I’m ready, maybe late this year or early next year.”
