Caroline Polachek “furious” over Moogfest’s categorisation of all-female and non-binary artists

The former Charlift singer has pulled out of Moogfest over concerns of tokenism, following their inclusion of her on an all-female and non-binary line-up.

The North Carolina festival revealed a wave of acts yesterday (6 December). Polachek has stated that she is “furious” to be placed under the category “without approval”, and has announced that she “will no longer be performing” at the festival.

The artist has tweeted: “Gender is not a genre. I don’t need a sympathy pedestal, esp from a male curator. Take my name off this list and put me in the pit with the boys.”

Those who’ve been announced for Moogfest include Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith, Jenny Hval, Bristol’s Shanti Celeste, and the three Discwoman members Umfang, Stud1nt and DJ Haram. Moogfest will be taking place in Durham, on 18-21 May.
