If you’ve ever struggled to correctly answer any questions on University Challenge, but you’re familiar with the back catalogue of British composer Anna Meredith, here’s your chance to geek out.
As spotlighted by the artist on her Twitter page, show participants were asked to identify the composers behind three samples featuring “music in a minimalist form”, on a recent episode. Terry Riley made an appearance on the programme via a short musical snippet, followed by Anna Meredith – to which the Bristol team replied, “Birtwistle”.
The UK artist’s last full-length was 2016’s Varmints. Last year, she released the singles Nautilus and Dowager via Moshi Moshi Records.

Stop whatever the hell you are doing. I was JUST AN ANSWER ON #UniversityChallenge – there’s nowhere to go from here. I will diminish and go into the West and remain Galadriel. Thanks to amazing @kj_funk for filming! Also: Birtwistle?!!! pic.twitter.com/YxkkHCvfbG
