The Austrian festival has completed the line-up for its 2018 edition.

The event is set to take place at Graz, Austria, on 28 February to 4 March. Elevate Festival is founded upon the basis of exploring the intersection between art, music and political discourse. The event aims to explore possible alternatives to the status quo with an extensive programme of panels, discussions and workshops, and this year’s theme is: risk and courage.

Discussions will focus on politics in journalism, Wikileaks and democracy as a potential security risk. Julian Assange will open the festival with a live webcast and Q&A session. Those who’ll also be speaking at the festival are anti-nuclear power activist Heather Wokusch, US war photographer Kate Brooks, playwright Angela Richter and indigenous activist Tara Houska amongst others.

Elevate co-founder Daniel Erlach said via a press statement, “More than 50 top-notch speakers from 16 different countries are set to participate in more than 25 panel discussions, lectures, workshops and film screenings – discussing with the audience as well as amongst themselves. In a newly created storytelling format, each of the invited guests can focus on their personal experiences and their associated stories.”

In the remit of music, Elevate has announced Mario Batkovic for the line-up along with Rashad Becker, and Fennesz will step up for an audiovisual show with Lillevan. Those who’ve been previously announced are John Maus, Objekt, LA producer Nosaj Thing, Príncipe’s Nídia, Discwoman’s Umfang, veteran German artist Roman Flügel, Mancunian selector Willow and others.
