Grammys 2018: Watch Kendrick Lamar’s politically charged performance

The Compton rapper took away five awards at the Grammys last night (28 January), winning accolades in the categories Best Rap Album, Best Rap Song, Best Rap Performance and Best Rap/Sung Collaboration.

Opening Sunday’s ceremony against a backdrop of the American flag, his politically charged performance saw the rapper surrounded by marchers in ski masks. A disclaimer during the show said, “This is a satire by Kendrick Lamar”, after which Bono and U2 took to the stage for a brief interlude.

The show also featured comedian Dave Chappelle, who said, “I just wanted to remind the audience that the only thing more frightening than watching a black man be honest in America is being an honest black man in America.”
