The Hyperdub artist is due to premiere the musical at London’s Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA) on 3 February.
Commissioned and produced by the ICA, the musical has been directed and scored by Klein. Furthermore, there will be a book accompanying the piece, written by Klein and featuring illustrations by Evie O’Connor.
According to the ICA, the musical’s plot tells the tale of children being transported to a life-altering world after a turn of events. The piece will be set in a care home.
This isn’t the South London artist’s first foray into musicals. In July, Klein penned a coming-of-age musical that centred around themes of youth, love and death for London’s New Music Biennial. It opened production duo Darkstar’s piece at the event.
Last year, Klein released the EP Tommy via Hyperdub, which includes the singles Cry Theme and Runs Reprise.
