The Cure’s Robert Smith to curate the 25th year of Southbank Centre’s Meltdown

The Cure’s Robert Smith has been announced as the curator for the 25th year of Southbank Centre’s Meltdown festival.

The event gives one artist the opportunity to curate a series of events at London’s Southbank. Previous curators have included John Peel, David Bowie, Nick Cave, Patti Smith, Massive Attack, Ray Davies, Yoko Ono and David Byrne. Last year the event programme was curated by M.I.A.

Speaking in a press release, Smith said, “I am honoured and excited to be curating the 25th Meltdown Festival. More than 30 of my all time favourite artists – some of the most exciting, inspirational, intense and influential performers of the last 40 years – will make sure this ten-night extravaganza at London’s Southbank Centre is the ‘must see’ event of the summer!”

The lineup of events will be unveiled in March. Find more information here.
