DESPACIO and Alva Noto & Ryuichi Sakamoto among final additions to Sónar Festival 2018

Sónar Festival have put the finishing touches on its 2018 edition.

The Barcelona festival, which is due to celebrate its 25th edition this year, has made its final wave of artist announcements. Most notable, perhaps, is the news that James Murphy and 2manydjs’ will be bringing their club experience DESPACIO to Sónar by Day. For those unfamiliar with the concept, Murphy and the Dewaele brothers will put their spectacular soundsystem, formed from seven towers of circularly arranged speakers and amplifiers, through its paces with three six-hour DJ sets – one for each day of Sónar by Day.

Also joining the expansive programme are long-time collaborators Alva Noto & Ryuichi Sakamoto. Two hugely respected artists in their own rights, they released joint improvisational album Glass earlier this month. Charged with closing the festival at the Teatre Grec, they will perform their new piano, electronica and a/v show Two. It is just one of only three opportunities to see the celebrated artists perform together this year.

There’s exciting developments elsewhere on the bill too, with IAMDBB, Jenny Hval, Objekt, Demdike Stare and SOPHIE also added. They will join previously announced names including DJ Stingray, LCD Soundsystem, Daphni, Laurel Halo, Octo Octa and Thom Yorke, who will step up for a special performance on Saturday night.

Sónar will take place on 14-16 June in Barcelona. You can find the full line-up, comprising more than 140 artists and acts, on the official Sónar Festival website, where you can also buy tickets.
