Rina Sawayama drops new anti-Valentine’s Day track

Ascendant pop star Rina Sawayama has dropped the perfect anti-Valentine’s Day song for those who won’t be participating in today’s traditional festivities.

Drawing inspiration from her 90s heroes, the Japanese artist sings about a fleeting love affair on the new track Valentine (What’s It Gonna Be), and is designed as “an anti-Valentine song for those who want a little no strings attached action” on a day that celebrates “the boring age old narrative of heterosexual monogamy”.

The song is her first new material since 2017’s mini-album RINA, which features the singles Alterlife and Cyber Stockholm Syndrome.
