Erykah Badu has posted a four-part film on Instagram soundtracked by her Sun Ra and BADBADNOTGOOD mashup.
Entitled PLANT DAY, the short film is comprised of four chapters: anointing the space, bathing the earth, enter THE WILL and Walk Rest Breathe. Each part is stitched together from clips filmed on her iPhone 7, showing scenes of natural surroundings, her silhouette, Badu’s collection of crystals and the process of repotting a plant.
Last year, the pioneering artist curated the fourth instalment of an ongoing series of Fela Kuti box sets. Entitled Fela Kuti Box Set #4, the collection of vinyl reissues was released on 15 December via Knitting Factory Records. On Jimmy Fallon’s Tonight Show in December, she covered Kuti’s Sorrow, Tears and Blood. In January, Vulture published a sprawling interview with the artist, during which she discussed Hitler, mysticism and Jordan Peele’s Get Out.
