Oscars 2018: ‘A Fantastic Woman’ wins best foreign film

A Fantastic Woman, the Chilean film directed by Sebastián Lelio and starring actress Daniela Vega, has won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Film.

The film tells the story of a transgender woman (Vega) who faces discrimination and abuse following the sudden death of her boyfriend.

Daniela Vega made history at the ceremony tonight by becoming the first trans woman in this history of the Oscars to introduce a performance. She spoke before Sufjan Stevens performed his song from the Call Me By Your Name soundtrack with St. Vincent, Moses Sumney and others.

A Fantastic Woman is out now across UK cinemas.
