WeTransfer presents new documentary on Courtney Barnett and Kurt Vile

Last year, former Cack cover star Courtney Barnett collaborated with Kurt Vile to create the critically acclaimed album Lotta Sea Lice.

Now, WeTransfer has released a new documentary in conjunction with Matador Records, named Friends of Wonder, telling the uplifting tale of the friendship and creative energy between the two singer-songwriters, leading up to their 2017 LP. Moments are interspersed with live footage taken from their 2017 show at Loew’s Jersey Theatre – the architecture of which provides the documentary with a sense of grandeur.

Directed and edited by filmmakers Vincent and Chin, the pair said on the documentary, “While editing the movie Irene and I would constantly look at each other and smile. We were editing scenes with two of our favorite musicians performing in a magical setting. We dreamed up this crazy movie about a mysterious movie palace and this concert – and the film turned out exactly how we imagined it. That’s not always how it works out.”

Previously, WeTransfer collaborated with former cover stars Björk and Arca for the video Arisen My Senses, and they produced the Baltimore Dance Project visual with FKA twigs.
