Artists pay tribute to Grenfell Tower fire victims one year on

Grenfell tower

Today marks the one-year anniversary of the Grenfell Tower fire in North Kensington.

On 14 June 2017, a fire erupted in the 24-storey block of public housing flats. Seventy-two people were killed, including artist Khadija Saye, whose work was being exhibited at the Venice Biennale.

Survivors of the fire are yet to be rehoused and are living in hotels. Over 200 homes have been bought by the Kensington and Chelsea council to rehouse the survivors, which are currently empty.

The UK capital holds a memorial in honour of the victims today, and a tube driver has stopped a train to wave a green flag in support of the Justice4Grenfell campaign. Tributes have also poured in from artists and industry insiders, including Lily Allen, Maya Jama and Bristol producer L U C Y.
