Azealia Banks sends a written apology to Elon Musk

Azealia Banks

Azealia Banks has shared a letter in which she apologises to Tesla founder Elon Musk, claiming that she feels “terrible about everything”.

The letter, which the rapper posted to Instagram on Saturday (25 August), is the latest chapter in an ongoing saga between Banks, Elon Musk and Grimes which began earlier this month.

“This is a strange situation to be in, and I’m not sure how exactly to begin this letter,” she writes. “I guess I could start off by apologising for all of the painful events you’ve endured over the past week, as I feel as though my actions have largely exacerbated them.”

The rapper goes on to explain her intention of finishing a series of tracks with Grimes, whose name has been omitted out of the letter with quotation marks. “Over the time spent liaising said collaborations, I was welcomed to a lot of personal information about you,” she continues. “The stuff made me feel awkward and uncomfortable about being privy to, yet I never had any intentions of ever using the information against you. What started off as a cat fight led to some seriously unexpected consequences and I sincerely apologise.” [sic]

On 12 August, the rapper wrote on Instagram that she had been left waiting at Elon Musk’s house when Grimes failed to show up for a recording session. Banks posted a story on Instagram complaining that she had been “literally been sitting at Elon Musk’s house alone for days waiting for Grimes to show up and start these sessions”. She told Business Insider that she was trying not to eavesdrop on Musk but that he was “scrounging for investors to cover his ass” after a tweet he posted on 7 August about securing private funding for Tesla attracted scrutiny and an inquiry from the SEC. Furthermore, she claimed Musk did not have funding secured, saying, “He lies about everything.”

Musk told a Gizmodo reporter that he “has never even met [Banks] or communicated with her in any way.” Later, he told The New York Times“I saw her on Friday morning, for two seconds at about a 30-foot distance as she was leaving the house. I’d just finished working out. She was not within hearing range. I didn’t even realise who it was. That’s literally the only time I’ve ever laid eyes on her.”

Banks also reportedly shared personal messages between her and Grimes, including one where Grimes claimed she got Musk into weed. On 20 August, she posted cryptic messages to her Instagram story asking Musk to return her phone.
